The specific action proposal for the House of Culture proposes an encounter between body and space.

These are a series of actions within this unique Brutalist building in Santa Cruz, where four bodies engage in a sensitive encounter and open dialogue with the architecture, the surroundings, the memories, and the invisible bodies that inhabit it. In this way, we will enable a collective experience of the place and the moment, inhabiting it together. Four bodies that engage in dialogue with the architecture of the place and embody all that it suggests to them. These are raw actions and architectures, body to body, skin to skin.

We also propose reactivating the building's spatial power by momentarily removing the visual distractions and noise that distort it and prevent us from hearing the space that speaks to us. To highlight its aesthetic qualities, we propose removing, for the event, signage, furniture, advertisements, and any elements that are not part of its architectural language. This is a heritage restoration project centered on the experience itself. In this way, we seek to reclaim its spatial poetry and make a space that has become merely a transit area, a residual space, or simply unwelcoming, more habitable.

Our proposal is to restore its clarity, to let the space speak to the bodies of the receivers, performers, and audience. To give free rein to its inherent communicative and welcoming power. By intervening in this central, vertical core, the circulation route between levels that provide access to the different activities, we will also restore fluidity to the movement between the various disciplines: libraries, exhibition hall, and performance space. Our aim is to bring them closer together so that their mechanisms function as the cultural center we all desire. One that connects, proposes, and welcomes, open to debate, dialogue, encounter, and opportunity. We want to emphasize that this building was conceived as a “cultural machine” to create community, to build society.
